Hi, and welcome to crohn's connect. I had Colitis, I had the surgery, and I'm on disability. I've never been on your drug Lialda, so I can't help you there. But, I also have diabetes, along with a few other ills.
If you want to apply for disability, you need alot of medical evidence that you can not work for any reason. You will need documents from all of your doctors along with medications, hospital visits, etc.
Maybe you can talk to your doctors, about the cost of this drug, and they can work with you by giving you a drug that may be lower in cost. The other choice try and contact the manufacturer of your drug, sometimes they work with patients, and lower their cost.

Hi vburner. I have crohns-colitis. I was on Lialda for quite some time. Had no side effects, but when I changed gastros, he said he didnt consider Lialda a good drug, so he put me on Sulfasalazine, then added azathioprine. I dont have any side effects from these either which is surprising as I am usually a side effects dream! As far as cost Lialda used to have a web site where if you got a Lialda card from the doctor(gastro) it never cost me any more than 30.00.
I have very good insurance from my husbands work, so I cant help with the disability question, but I would SURE ask about the Lialda card!

Hi lindylou…thanks for the info. I found the drug card and the offer expired 12/31/11. I went the the drug companies website and found paperwork that I downloaded and will take to the doctor and hopefully get approved for assistance. Thanks for the other drugs to ask the doctor about. Hey llou…well my insurance was extended until 1/30/12. Got my paperwork signed by the doctor and am just waiting to hear from the drug company. Got the stomach flu and it was all I could do to function. It really scares me to be around sick people. I've read where one of the symptoms of crohn's is an overactive immune system. So it doesn't work right to begin with. I asked my doctor about that and he was impressed I did some research about it. I guess he's not used to people looking up what is wrong with them…lol. Hi vb. Sorry to hear you had the flu! Thank the lord, i havent. I take sulfasalazine(mesalamine) and azathioprine, so I try not to be around people that are ill.
